Things I love
This week is Think Week at Every.
Our day 1 activity is to gather things that we like. I've decided instead to gather things that I love
Here is a non-exhaustive list of things I love:
British racing green. It looks great, that's all I can say.

I love the way tress blow in the wind.
I love the way people clap for sunsets. It's corny but it's also cute and nice.
I like this keyboard shortcut tooltip in Linear. It shows how much care went into the product and the depths there are to the product despite the simplicity.
I like the feeling of driving an old manual car on a country road, I feel connected to the machine and the road and my surroundings.
The same is true for motorcycles and bicycles. I love the feeling of the wind against my skin as I ride down a road on 2 wheels.
Aside, I should write about how I ride motorcycles and why it's basically meditation
I like my film camera. It's old, heavy and doesn't have any electronic components (Except for a light meter). I've dropped it a million times and it still works great.
- The simplicity of stripe when it first started
Stripe.createToken({ number: '4242424242424242', exp_month: 12, exp_year: 2013, cvc: '123' });
The key innovation lie in not needing developers to be PCI compliant because you're not handling any payment details yourself. You're creating a token on the users machine and sending it to Stripe. This unlocked a key piece of the internet as we know it today.
The pan-dimensional being characters in Pixar's Soul. Whilst the other characters are 3D, they're 2D. They're written in a extremely hilarious way. Very reminiscent of the macOS finder icon. They're extremely playful.
Vim is great, I can move around my text editor at what feels like the speed of thought. Though I still haven't scratched the surface of what is possible in vim. and that's what I really like about it. First vim shows me that there's deep levels of how to use a keyboard and that there's even deeper levels to discover if I so choose.
There's something about the ability to go deeper on things like keyboards that I really like. Clearly related to why I like old film camera, manual cars etc
Docker!
docker run postgres:13.3
No longer do I have to worry about making sure I have the right versions of things installed or "it worked on my machine"I also love docker compose for this as well. I can define an entire project in a single file and trust that it will work on my machine, your machine, and any server I want to run it on.
Hans Zimmer's score for Interstellar, not only do I love how it sounds but I love that he created the main score and motifs from a one pager that Nolan gave him about the emotional core of the story. He knew very little about the actual plot of the movie.
"People Get Up and Drive Your Funky Soul" by James Brown
I like doing anything to this song. Walking, cleaning, folding laundry, cooking, driving. It's my go to song.
It all fits together perfectly, the groove the band creates and maintains and James Brown's raw vocal performance.
I have goose bumps thinking about the song.
I love having phone calls with friends that I haven't spoken to in a while and hearing all the cool shit they're up to.
I love that Tom Baker's Doctor Who would offer people Jelly Babies.
I love the apple logo. Specifically the bite.
I love Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city. I remember when this came out when I was in high school. I listened to it on repeat for months.
The Beatles
Last but not least I love my wife. Though she is not a "thing" so not sure it counts!
Patterns
I threw this list into both Anthropic's claude-3.5-sonnet
model and OpenAI's latest iteration of GPT4o chaptgpt-4o-latest
with the prompt What patterns do you see in this list of things that I love?
Here's the what I got, edited to be a bit more concise:

While she’s “not a thing,” she’s clearly the most important.
Summary of What This Says About You
You appreciate craftsmanship, depth, and direct interaction with the world. You are drawn to things that are mechanical, well-designed, and deceptively simple but offer endless room for mastery.
